Sullivan's Island Real Estate
Sullivans Island
is the quintessential in historic Southern, island living.
The island is neatly positioned, seven nautical miles, to the north of
Historic Charleston. The island is easily accessed from Mt. Pleasant via
the Ben Sawyer Bridge (SC Highway 703) or via the Isle of Palms Connector
(SC Highway 517). Sullivan's Island is home to nearly 2,000 residents.
The town was incorporated in 1817 as Moultrieville and later renamed
Sullivan's Island. The island has no motels, B&B's and few short-term
rentals. The homes on Sullivan's Island vary from classic beach cottages to
aesthetically pleasing new construction.
When you speak of
Sullivan's Island, one of the first things that come
to mind, besides its shear beauty, is the islands rich history. Sullivan's
Island is home to historic Fort Moultrie. The fort boast over 171 years
of history, from the early shots of the American Revolutionary War to
WW II
protection from German U-boats. Sullivan's Island was also, a one-time,
home to Edgar Allen Poe and he penned the classic "The Gold Bug"
during
his stay. The moments mentioned in this paragraph are but a snapshot of
the rich history of the island. I recommend you go to the local links
page to explore some of my favorite island links.
During the eleven
plus summers I spent on the island I became aware of
why the island is and has remained so popular. Before the advent of air
conditioners many, well-healed, Charlestonians would spend their summers
on the island enjoying the beach and cooling summer breezes. Today, the
island has added to its mix of natural enjoyments, great restaurants,
quaint bars, art shops, and a centrally located park with/ basketball,
tennis, soccer facilities and a children's play park. Spending time on
the island is a real joy and truly calls one to relax and slow down.
Home prices for the
island has steadily risen over the past few years,
and most homes in 2004, are priced at $700,000 and above. A large
majority of the homes on Sullivan's Island are selling in excess of
a million dollars. The proximity to Charleston, world-class dinning/
shopping in neighboring Mt. Pleasant, average island temperatures of
65 degrees and the draw of Southern living, has helped propel the
island to a new level.
I invite
you to read some of my other island facts and explore the
rest of my web site. You can view all of the active homes and lots
for sale on the island via my "Buy a Home" link. If you are
an island
resident who is thinking of selling your home please contact me through
my "Sell Your Home" button. If you have any questions about
the island,
please feel free to call or email me. I love the island and enjoy getting
to talk about the area.
